Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) is encouraging farmers to plant trees on their farms in Kibale.
By growing wood lots and indigenous trees alongside crops like tea and coffee, farmers reduce pressure on Kibale National Park while rebuilding soil microbiomes, cutting costs on irrigation/inputs, and opening new income streams through timber and carbon credits.
With partners like Face the Future and Prima Klima helping structure the carbon finance side.
For these smallholder farmers, agroforestry is also a hedge against being locked out of EU export markets under the new deforestation rules.
