Agro-Processing in Uganda: From Nuts, Legumes to a Dairy-Free Brand

Date:

It started with a personal need. Mabel Sebikari, Founder of Sapphire Dairy Alternatives was lactose intolerant so instead of giving up dairy, she turned to agro-processing, transforming raw cashews into her own milk at home. That was 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Fast forward, and that kitchen experiment has grown into Sapphire Dairy Alternatives, proof of what agro-processing can do when it starts from a real problem. Her raw ingredients now become: Cashew, soy & almond milk (plain + flavoured), Plant-based ice cream, Soy cream cheese spread (plain + Spicy + garlic & onion flavoured), Soy, cashew & almond yogurt.

Each product is agro-processing turning locally available raw materials; cashews, soy, almonds into products that solve a real dietary problem: helping people managing allergies, chronic illness, or simply choosing a healthier lifestyle.
